Just Do It
I recently had someone send me an incredibly sweet and heart-felt message asking me how it was that I began to teach yoga while traveling. They shared with me that it was their dream to travel and teach, and were wondering if there were any tips I could share with them, so that their dreams could become a reality, too.
I feel inspired to share the advice I gave to them. Your dream might not be to travel the world and teach yoga. Maybe it is. Maybe your dream is to own your own home in your favorite neighborhood. Maybe your dream is to paint. Maybe your dream is simply just to live a life you feel darn proud of, whatever exactly that looks like. The point is, we are all unique, and have a multitude of dreams dependent on that uniqueness. However, I feel confidently that the utmost important path of action to any and all dreams is the same. That path is to take a page from Nike, and simply, just. do. it.
When I first decided that I was ready to take on teaching jobs that required me to travel, I noticed that I was sort of waiting around for someone to present the opportunity to me. Like one day all of a sudden someone would reach out to me and ask, “Hey, will you teach this retreat?” Or, come knocking at my inbox with a, “You’re invited to teach at our studio!” I realized quite quickly that I wasn’t exactly basing my expectations in reality. Unfortunately, no one was just going to show up one day and hand me my dreams on a silver platter. If I was actually going to make my dreams a reality, I was just going to have to figure out how to do it myself.
So, that’s what I did. I decided one day that this was who I was, this was how I was going to be, and this was how I was going to live my life. I was going to research, and ask around, and make any necessary connections to help me figure out exactly how. I still do all of this work to this day. Sometimes, my efforts prove to be fruitful, and many more times, not so much.
No one else is going to walk up to you and hand you the gateway to your dreams. There are no tips and tricks, or short cuts that are truly, particularly helpful. What worked for me, might not work for you. What works for you, might not work for me, because my path is unique to me, and yours to you.
You have to create your own opportunities. You have to wake up one day and just decide, "Okay, I’m going to do it! I’m going to make it happen!"
Many times, that’s easier said, than done. The road to your dreams is a process. It requires commitment, perseverance, and work. That’s not something a lot of people want to hear. However, if your soul is driven enough by your passion and love, you will find a way.
