1 For ONE: 1% For One Healthy World
For a while now, I have been sitting and pondering over what it means to be a business owner. Scratch that. Let’s get really, real. What I’ve truly been sitting with is this deep question, “What does it mean to be a human being alive on our planet these days? In particular, what does it mean to be one of those human beings AND own a business?” What I’ve ultimately landed on can best be summarized in one word: responsibility.
the state or fact of having a duty to deal with something
the state or fact of being accountable
the opportunity or ability to act independently
As a human being who lives in a country where I am gifted the opportunity to own a business, and that gift offers me the ability to act independently, I, in turn, have a duty. This duty holds me accountable for the impact my life has on all other life. This has also led me to spend countless hours these recent months wondering, “What do I want that impact to look like?”
For me, what echoes the loudest and most fragrantly in my mind is my, and our, impact on the earth. We’re all aware humans here. We know, no planet earth, no us. That means literally everything else comes secondary. Because, no planet earth, no yoga. No yoga pants. No animals. No humans. No cars. No coffee. No anything at all that you can think of (and anything you can think of, by the way, comes from the experience of being alive on this planet right now, and only comes from experiencing life here on this planet - #truthbomb).
I know, you’re probably already quite aware that the health of our planet is an important topic for me, and I know that if you’re reading this right now, the health of our planet is already an important topic for YOU, too. I’m not writing you today to convince you of that. No. I’ve been thinking…
I’ve been learning how to do my part on a small scale. Every day, I’m discovering new ways to live a more sustainable, eco-friendly lifestyle through my daily practices and actions. Now, I want to take this one step further, and cultivate my business policy to reflect my personal beliefs and practices. I want to show up on the line of duty, and I want to be there early, with my best outfit on.
That is why (drumroll, please….) this month I’m launching my new campaign, “1 For ONE: 1% For One Healthy World”. What does this mean? For every dollar you invest in my offerings, I will donate 1% to the Earthwatch Institute. This applies to all in person and online classes and workshops, as well as products.
Earthwatch is a non-profit environmental organization with a home base in Boston. Never heard of them? Here’s a quick download of what Earthwatch is all about (as seen on their “About” page):
“Our vision is a world in which we live within our means and in balance with nature.”
(Be still, my beating heart).
And, their mission statement, “To engage people worldwide in scientific field research and education to promote the understanding and action necessary for a sustainable environment.”
(Yes, yes, yes! These people take ACTION).

It honestly thoroughly excites me to take this ability by the reigns and contribute to something greater, something bigger than myself with my offerings. And, what I personally think is so special about this new venture is that, this is a journey that we are embarking on together, hand in hand. I look forward to seeing what we can do, together.
